Simoticons

For the second season of The X Factor, Verizon has enhanced their Xtra Factor app with new features. The campaign focused on the two sides of Simon Cowell — the supportive, sentimental good guy and the brutally honest bad guy. Good Simon and Bad simon play off each other in an interesting way to promote the show and the app through a series of social and digital executions.

As part of the campaign we created a facebook app called Simoticons. We used Simon’s iconic facial expressions—they let you know exactly what he’s thinking before he even opens his mouth—and turned them into emoticons that people can use in response to a Facebook post, video, or photo. Excitement, boredom, or disgust—“Simoticons” say it all.

Users click on the Simoticon of their choice and it is automatically copied to their clipboard. A tool tip offers a link back to their Facebook wall. Simoticons follow you back to your wall as a pop-up gallery

Pasting the link into a comment field places the Simoticon as a comment. When sharing a link, a preview image appears, we used this native Facebook function, and repurposed it to deliver Simoticons.

Both Simons are here to introduce you to the app's new features in a witty humorous way that makes the case for downloading the app.
